Originally maid to go with Marklin & Fleishmann brand train sets in the 80's.
Thankfully they are a we bit more reliable (not by much tho) in the last 10 years.

My mate had a large carnival layout, with Tyco US1 track system running on it too. (Thats where i got all those Truck Chassis from)

He usually upgrades all the gears & replaces the plastic cogs for metal or cast ones, to make more reliable.

Dave, I just had a look at some of the Faller gear and it's a millionaires playground for sure. Gotta say the dodgem car set up in particular, puts the icing on the cake so to speak.

Andy, thanks for the link. I've seen some pretty extraordinary scenery but never anything that comes even close to photos on those pages. I have no idea of the history of that layout but it must involve many talented artists. I can't see how one person could do all that in 100 life times. Not sure if it's just me but looking at small scale, ultra detailed models suck me in like a kid in a candy store.

Going off (slots) topic here a little, at the Melbourne Museum they have a 1:32 model of the historic "Clunes Quartz Mine" that is mind blowing. The model was made on location in 1859 using only the materials immediately available to the artist. My father used to take me to see it as a kid and we used to just stare at it forever. When I visit the museum now, with my girls, they have to drag me away from it. A few years back a grabbed some close up photos, stitched them together and used a bit of editing magic to make a panorama shot of the lower section of the model.

Yes, it is the best of the best.

He has built it by himself ! It is setup in the showroom of the model making factory he owns.

Has all the parts "out the back" and spends 40-60 hours a week on it, as he says in videos ive seen of it, there will never be anything as grand & detailed made in 100 life tiame, because he lives & breathes the layout & his model making business.

He did build a 35 story building that was 1.5 wide & had over 1000 windows in the front alone. He has since replaced that with several others. Makes life easy when you "perk" the parts from out the back LOL.

Anothe massive layout worth a google is Northlandz, 2nd biggest layout in the world.
A Millionares private layout, open to the public, some jaw dropping stats on the numbers & size of some of the areas.

You train guys have issues!!!! They must all be single and have no kids? Still you have to admire the detail and skill to create such amazing work! Would have loved to see the US1 set up Andy. I will be doing a US1 set up one day with a train track as well. Got all parts I need. Just lacking the motivation to make a start!!!!!

Northlandz.........jaw dropping to say the least.

The guy who has Northlandz, was when he lived in a normal house, the only guy know in model train circles to extend his basement 3, yes 3 times LMFAO.

Yes most avid Railroad nuts have issues, and yea we do have a few strage ones in our midsts.

No names, but I have a 65 year old model making friend, who sratch builds everything (including 8 foot ships) who came out of the closet a few years back & announced to the world he is a cross-dresser & has been for 49 years. (most of the clothes he/she wears look from that old too) especially the tatty blond wig.

Oh dear!!!! 65 year old cross dresser!! Ewwwwwwwwww!!!!! Everyone to their own I suppose?

And hes loud & likes to be the centre of attention, which is all good when in normal clothes. LMFAO

Most people run a mile, a really bad look. But I always stop and talk, briefly.
