Winsock provider catalogue

Post by pamsham »

I can connect to the internet using internet explorer and not MSN. The problem is when I want to get my emails from hotmail and yahooxtra. It will not let me log in and also websites like Trade Me can view until I wish to log in. When diagonised it say there is a problem with winsock provider catalogue, then it asks if Iwant it to fix it, so yes and nothing is fixed. It has also affected my McAfee antivirus, I can't open it. I scanned my computer using trend mico with housecall and no virus found.
Hope you can help me.
Cheers

Hello, and Welcome to the Forum.

I guess your XP ??. Anyway try this.

You may have ran into something known as 'winsock2 corruption'.

If you have XP with SP2 installed, go to [Start] >>> Run >>> (now type) CMD and press [Enter], or click on [OK].

Now enter the following at this command prompt:

netsh winsock reset catalog

and press the [Enter]-key.

This will reset the Winsock Catalog to its default settings, and should solve the problem.

Hello.

OK well What is your O/S ?, Do you have a Firewall?

Also sounds like your settings on IE is set high. Try Firefox to see if you can get through (this will tell if it is IE).

Also run Ccleaner and clear the cookies. And maybe reset your IE setting to default.
