Post Newbie!!
Hi all,
Im an old fart (36) who is getting into slot car racing because my 2.5 year old needs to...well the justification went something like that!!
I have had many RC cars (both nitro and elec) but decided to give slot car racing a bit of a bash, at 2.5 yrs old I think my son is just getting to the right age that I can justify speding more money on toys...the budgets tight so will be looking on TM for some deals...Swivel has already outbid me on a Tyco set the other night while I was at work

I have a mate with Tomy AFX and that seemed pretty good, I did just pick up a Tomy F1 World Series set on TM which has no cars so will be on the lookout for a couple...anything considered at this stage to get me running.

And will be looking to pick up a bit more track soon (have a couple on the watchlist now).

I will build a relatively small flat track (on a board 2.0 mtrs x .82 mtrs) to start with that way the little tykes that come around (and my son) wont break too much when the stand on it!! And I can lean it against the wall when the space needs to be cleared.
Not too worried about balls out speed, personally I would prefer a little more skilled and slower driving for me and my mates but strong magnets would be good for the young fulla so Im guessing I may need different types of cars?

I am having a lot of fun with tracker 2000 desining the track...great software!

Cheers all,
And dont be afraid to put your 2 cents in!!!

Azz

EDIT are these cars worth it to get me started? TM 294858308

Hello.

Yep not bad cars for starters. They are Lifelike but will work fine (have purchased a few from him).

well Are you sticking with Tyco or Tomy (or Aurora) track

36 (your a pup) as i'm 46 and not the oldest slot man on this forum. I'd say your about the average age.

Hi Swivel,
Im not really sure yet which track I should go for, I guess with Tomy you can always buy new stuff ( Im guessing the "Tomy Aurora AFX" is what you class as Tomy track?)
Butt there seems to be heaps of good deals on Tyco track, anything wrong with going with that if I could get a big pile of it cheap? Can you reverse the direction like you can with the Tomy track?

Well Aurora AFX track is diff to AFX Tony. Not sure if you can reverse tyco (to cold to go look in the shed).

Yes there is alot of Tyco out there at the mo.

Well hard to say which to go for, But if it's cheap enough, then try both.

You can get a Tomy - Tyco track joiner (think i have a set in the shed).

Hey Azzman,
Just ignore that Pukypuky guy! We do! Hehehe! Try for Tomy track if you can but if Tyco comes up cheap go for that. Tomy is a better quality track but for the average home track Tyco is fine! Swivel pointed out with have a section here that we put auction numbers up if we are interested in them. If you see something you are keen on post the link and we won't bid against you. Just be fast cause Swivel lives on the net!
The Lifelike cars would be perfect for the kids. Fast and good traction magnets. Bodies are Funky but the kids shouldn't mind? AFX Turbo cars are also good for kids! AFX Magnatraction cars would be good for you and your mates. Bit more skill involved keeping them on the track and doing quick laps.
Welcome and ask any dumb questions. I've asked them all anyway! We won't give you shit about it!

Cheers Dave.

Haha, great theres a good sense of humour on this site...which generally comes with a more mature clientel...
Do you think this is worth it.. TM 294949716 it would probably complete my track needs (for now).
Also do the rigs (with trailer) fit around the hairpin curve?

At the current price it's worth it. Watching it myself.
But if your keen then i'll step back.

Trucks around the hairpin is tricky
